Top-15 cap hits on any NFL team typically consume ~70% of the cap, with quarterback cost the single largest variable. Rookie-contract quarterback economics (Wilson-in-Seattle 2012-2015; Mahomes-in-KC 2018-2020 pre-extension; Herbert / Burrow / Hurts era pre-extension) are the most reliable roster-construction advantage in the modern NFL.
