The Baratelli Institute · Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, USA
Effective: May 17, 2026 · Last updated: May 17, 2026
DRAFT PENDING ATTORNEY REVIEW. This policy reflects The Baratelli Institute's intended practices in plain language, drafted by the Institute for review by counsel prior to commerce launch. A multi-AI-attorney panel review is queued (cross-jurisdictional: US, EU GDPR, UK GDPR, California CCPA/CPRA). Until that review completes, this policy is informational only.
1. Who we are
The Baratelli Institute (the "Institute," "we," "us") is a single-founder publishing entity based in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, USA. We publish a library of practitioner reference guides, free practitioner tools, and a periodic editorial brief, under the tagline Mentoring at Scale. Founder: Phil Baratelli, CPA, MBA.
Website: www.baratelliinstitute.com. Contact: see Section 11 below.
2. What we collect, and why
2a. Information you give us directly
- Email address. Collected when you join a launch waitlist, subscribe to the Brief, request a free extract, or contact us. We use it to deliver the thing you asked for, plus occasional updates about the Institute. We do not sell or rent email addresses.
- Name (optional). Collected only if you choose to provide it in a contact form or co-brand request.
- Co-brand request fields. If you use the cobrand-builder tool, your firm name, contact name, and email are processed to assemble a cobranded URL or PDF. These fields are not stored on our servers unless you submit them via a form.
- Purchase information (on Gumroad). When you buy a guide, the transaction is processed by Gumroad as merchant of record. We receive only the information Gumroad shares with us as the seller: your email and the product purchased. We do not receive your full payment-card details.
2b. Information collected automatically
- Basic usage analytics. Page views, referrer, approximate location at country/region level, device type. We use this to understand which guides and tools are useful and to improve them.
- Cookies. See our Cookie Notice.
3. Legal basis for processing (EU/UK residents)
For users in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, and other jurisdictions with similar laws:
- Consent — for marketing emails and non-essential cookies.
- Contract — to deliver a guide you purchased.
- Legitimate interest — to operate and improve the website and respond to inquiries you initiate.
- Legal obligation — to comply with tax, accounting, and consumer-protection laws.
4. Who we share information with
We share the minimum necessary with the small number of vendors that operate the Institute's infrastructure:
- Gumroad — payment processing and digital delivery of purchased guides. (Merchant of record for sales.)
- Netlify — website hosting and form submission processing.
- Email service provider — for the Brief and waitlist communications. As the Institute scales, this is expected to migrate to a major ESP (such as ConvertKit, Beehiiv, or customer.io). The current provider will be named here when commerce launches.
- Analytics provider — privacy-respecting analytics (vendor to be named here when commerce launches; the Institute prefers vendors that do not set third-party tracking cookies).
We do not sell personal information. We do not share personal information with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
5. International transfers
The Institute is based in the United States. If you are outside the US, your information will be transferred to and processed in the US. Our vendors may also process data in other jurisdictions. Where required, we rely on standard contractual clauses or equivalent safeguards.
6. How long we keep it
- Waitlist and Brief subscribers: until you unsubscribe.
- Purchase records: seven years (US tax retention requirement).
- Analytics: aggregated and retained indefinitely; individual session data is purged after 26 months.
- Contact-form submissions: three years from last interaction, then deleted.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate information.
- Delete your information (subject to legal retention requirements).
- Restrict or object to processing.
- Data portability — receive your information in a portable format.
- Withdraw consent for marketing communications at any time (unsubscribe link in every email).
- California residents (CCPA/CPRA): rights to know, delete, correct, and opt out of sale or sharing. The Institute does not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
- EU/UK residents (GDPR): right to lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority.
To exercise any right, contact us using the details in Section 11. We will respond within 30 days.
8. Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards proportionate to the information we hold (which is limited — email addresses, purchase records, contact-form text). The Institute does not store credit-card numbers; payment processing is handled by Gumroad. We do not have access to your password or any account credentials with vendors. No system is perfectly secure; we encourage you to use a unique strong password for any account you create with our vendors.
9. Children
The Institute's services are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16 (or under 13 for US residents under COPPA). The Money Reality High School Edition is purchased by adult readers (parents, teachers, students of legal contracting age) on behalf of or for use by students; we do not collect information from minors directly.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. The "Last updated" date at the top will reflect the most recent change. Material changes will be announced via the Brief or a banner on the website. Previous versions will be archived and available on request.
